Description
This is a complete User Interface intended for EQMac players on the Al'Kabor server only. It can be used on any PPC or Intel Mac that is capable of running the DEFAULT User Interface.

MAIN FEATURES

ALL textures have been resampled or recreated from scratch to comply with the “power of two” rule for efficient display of OpenGL graphics. This means that they are all sized to 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 pixels on a side. This applies to both the texture files themselves and all pieces cut from them for display on the screen. The single exception is the art for the Compass which is constrained to specific dimensions by SOE.

Every texture is displayed on the screen at its full and original size. This means that no scaling of textures is performed when the screen is redrawn. While this means that all buttons have to be a certain size (64x32px, 64x16px and so on), it also means that no shortcuts have been taken... no using a standard texture for a button and stretching it to fit the available space.

All windows are fully opaque and have a clearly visible border and background. This makes it simple to place them on the screen so that they do not overlap, another significant cause of UI-related lag.

All non-essential textures have been removed from the User Interface. Strenuous effort has been taken to reduce the number and size of textures declared in this User Interface. While it does mean the loss of some of the "gloss" of the DEFAULT User Interface, the memory savings on older Macs makes it well worthwhile. Candidates for this efficiency were the backgrounds of the Book and Notes windows as well as the Class Animation on the Inventory screen.

The UI is "viewport friendly". Where two or more windows would have been a similar width or height, care has been taken to make sure they match their neighbours exactly.

Numerous coding efficiency and internal consistency checks have been performed. This User Interface will not spit out a texture.txt error file.

OPTIONAL FILES

There is a one "one size fits all" package available for the POWEROFTWO UI release. All the following optional files are available inside it...

•Full-size spell icons in EQClassic, Default and t.King graphic sets
•Tiny spell icons in EQClassic, Default and t.King graphic sets
•Buff bar - icons only, wide left/right-aligned, tiny left/right-aligned
•Chat window - with/without title bar
•Containers - standard slots only or extended with pri/sec/rng/ammo
•Gauges - Pure melee or Hybrid options, with/without percentages
•Hot Buttons - standard or extended with stats, resists, xp/aa gauges and 12 equipment slots
•Selector window - horizontal or vertical
•Spells window - standard horizontal or vertical, wide left/right-aligned
•Timers - none, single or double digit, dial or strip
•Zone Finder - Utdaan’s zone-line locator uses the old Feedback window to great effect

HOW TO INSTALL THE POWEROFTWO UI

1. INSTALL

Just download the "poweroftwo" package from this site and place the folder it contains directly into the "EverquestLP/game/uifiles" directory. If you have done this correctly, you will see both "default" and "poweroftwo" folders when you open the "uifiles" folder.

2. BACKUP

Once you have downloaded the UI, you need to make a backup of the following files from your "EverquestLP/game" directory...

•UI_YourCharacterName_52.ini
•eqclient.ini

3. EDIT EQCLIENT.INI (OPTIONAL)

If you know you will be using the POWEROFTWO UI on your main character, you can speed up loading times by telling EQMac to load this UI straight away.

To do this, you need to open the eqclient.ini file which is in the "EverquestLP/game" directory using TEXTEDIT.

Search for the line "UISkin=Default" and replace it with "UISkin=Poweroftwo".

Save the new eqclient.ini file and quit TEXTEDIT.

This causes the game to load the POWER OF TWO User Interface when Everquest is started and will save time when changing between characters.

4.ACTIVATE THE UI

Once you are in EQ, you need to tell the game to use the POWEROFTWO UI for each character. You can either do this by typing "/loadskin poweroftwo 1" in a chat window or clicking the Load UI button on the Options screen and selecting POWEROFTWO.

5. OPTIONAL FILES

You can find the optional files in the "EverquestLP/game/uifiles/poweroftwo/optional files" folder. Both the original and altered versions of windows are in there so you can easily swap back and forth as needed.

TERMS OF RE-USE

You are free to use absolutely any part of this User Interface as a base for your own User Interface. Whether you just want to alter a single screen to suit your tastes or release a whole new User Interface based upon this one, you may do so without seeking prior approval. The work I have put into the POWER OF TWO User Interface is a gift to the EQMac Community.
