Bard Twist Command with UI window to support it

I think that Bards should get an AA skill to Twist songs

New UI window for bards...

Two Three or Four songs are allowed to be set up in the window to be called on when the bard does a /twist command.

1 AA point for 2 song twist allowed
2 more AA points for 3 song twist allowed
3 more AA points for 4 song twist allowed

The twist would auto retry the song that missed a note and then move to the next song in the rotation once a song is started. The twist would stop once a /stopsong command is given.

This skill lets the bard start a twist and have the game macro the twist while the bard fights or does anything else. This gives NO new skill to a bard except takes the constant key pressing away from being a bard. This is better for the health of the player as it does not cause carpal tunnel syndrome

I agree....

lol.. i agree. after about a three hour raid.. my hand starts hurting from pushing the buttons all the time...

Iplayed a bard 4years ago and i know what you mean.. i had to stop playing him , my hand coundnt take it anymore... I realy dont see sony making this easyer on ya but you never know .. that would be a good idea and hope one day they add somthing like that in game

Raynsmajic 05-09-2003 01:54 PM

hah, SoE do sommat good for the players? i'd like to see that, hehe. but, yeah, that would be an amazing ability to have. i mean, even at lvl 10 it's hard to play a bard with all the button pressing. i must say, if SoE actually does that, my faith might be renewed in the, hehehe. :)

I've started probably over 20 characters in the time I've played EverQuest and I've never got any over level 20 except my main, my bard. I love twisting songs because its the first class where I really feel involved with the combat. I agree that it's hard work, and it makes your fingers tired after doing it for a few hours. But I'm weird and I like that. :D

Now what I really dislike is having to juggle my inventory to use an instrument. I have them lined up in my hotbar, and I don't know how many times I've grabbed my secondary weapon first by mistake, switching it with my instrument and then trying to switch out my instrument with my primary slot. Of course that's impossible since instruments go in the secondary slot. Silly me! :D You should watch me fumble quickly after that to make up for my error. hehe

twisting...

you can always set a hot key to...
/cast 1
/pause "amout of cast timer"
/cast 2
/pause "amout of cast timer"
/cast 3
/pause "amout of cast timer"

and repeat this so you push it once and you get all 3 or 4 songs twisted twice by the push of 1 key... i have it set up on my bard works great

twisting

I foudn out in my experance that that hotcommand dont work

here is why:
/cast 1
/pasue ( casting time)

these first two commands work well togeather it works fine after that it gets confuseing. since your singing the song you will have to stop the song. so...

/cast 2 would stop the song
/pause (casting time) you would end up waitting the next few seconds for the next song to cast

/cast 3
/pause (casting time) these would work properly

/cast 4
/pause (casting time) these again would be screwed up cuse aigan your stoping the origianl song.

if you want to do a hot key it would work more like this

/stop song
/cast 1
/pause ( casting time)
/stopsong
/cast 2

and since that is allt he spaces you have you would have to make a second hot key similur to the one above :)

just my experance

Vampris 09-04-2003 03:01 PM

then you do

/cast 1
/pause (cast time)
/cast 2
/cast 2
/pause (cast time)
/cast 3
/cast 3
/pause (cast time)
/cast 1
/cast 1
/pause (cast time)

ttrichard 09-04-2003 03:32 PM

Any missed note will screwup the entire hotkey.

The norm for twisting hotkeys is as follows:

Hotkey 1
/stopsong
/cast 1

Hotkey 2
/stopsong
/cast 2

Hotkey 3
/stopsong
/cast 3

etc....

This stops the double-key stroke to start and stop the song since the hotkeys have /stopsong as the 1st line.

Twisting is now as simple as pressing 1, 2, 3.

You can have another hotkey with /stopsong to stop singing or just simply click a spell gem.

A few notes on this subject; my bard is new, but I thought I might add a few thoughts.

1) Macros are limited to 5 lines, so it's really only possible to macro 2 songs together. I think this is acceptable, as you can make reasonably intelligent 2-song groups

2) A missed not does not mess up the whole macro.

3) Songs should be stopped with /stopsong for safety (so next song goes off):

/pause 30, /cast 1
/stopsong
/pause 30, /cast 2
/stopsong

If using /cast 2 instead of /stopsong in the macro YES a missed not would mess up the whole macro.

best thing I have found for bards is this:

This is the Nostromo N52 by Belkin.. each keypad can have any command set to it INCLUDING real time, time delays. the small button below the thumb pad changed between 3 sets (soo each button has 3 functions totally 104 functions) I can play my bard one handed with very little pain when using this.

If you would like to read more about this here is the product page from Belkin

just a little tip from your local bard

**moved thread, and corrected title, this is talking about AA and macros.. none of which directly suggest changes to the function of the UI..

They're out of stock, kudane! :\

I think 1/2/3 points isn't really enough... it seems more appropriate to be 3/6/9 and only after you max sm/im or something.... twisting mastery? he he.

I'm not sure if I'd like these changes or not but, all this would make bot'ing a bard easier at least. ;)

Rasshaiz 11-24-2003 05:50 PM

i played a bard for about 30 lvls before I lost my first account = ( and i loved him! twisting came naturally to me, i was able to do 4 by the time i got 4 songs. If your fingers cant take playing a bard..... dont play it lol simple.

*rest of message removed by Admin, it was unneccisary and just leads to flaming*

edit: whatever lol

I have a lesser model of that nostromo. Only 10 keys and no little orange button. I only use it for my ranger too. That little throttle makes archery thousands of times easier. Then after I set that up I made 2 nuke short cuts, 2 assists, 1 manually archery and 1 auto attack button.

When I made a bard I actually got a lot of other bards just tell me to do it manually with the mouse which I liked a lot more then macros. Havent tried setting up the nostromo for my bard though(only level 16).
