Launch Pad patcher

It's getting put on EQ today, so it may impact those who have custom patchers running.

Greetings,

On Wednesday, August 29, 2007 at 10:30 am we will be releasing EverQuest to the Station LaunchPad for the Live Servers. The maintenance period is expected to be about 30 minutes to an hour but we do not anticipate any downtime. We'll keep you updated on the status.

You're welcome to visit the Test Server to view how EverQuest looks on LaunchPad.

Thank you and Enjoy!

It completey bypasses the previous patcher. Basically no more patcher customization.

For those of our authors not playing the game any more, you wont be able to download patches so you can fix your UI's. You must have an active account in EQ to get the patches now.

So sad :(

Guess we will be asking EQInterface to have a section to hold any updated UI files after a patch for the authors.

Brighid741 08-29-2007 04:28 PM

Yep, you have to log in to patch.

Isn't that pretty much the purpose of the compare files that are listed every patch?

You are correct, but the xml files are not the only thing updated. Example: tga's
And the compares are not always done right away after a patch.

I am very happy with the new launchpad for EverQuest. They finally have something that actually matches the game, unlike the default UI. Only small glitch to it is you see the dashed-box around some fields and the Play button. Hopefully soon I can go back and start re-drawing the UI I once worked on.

Awesome job SOE. :)

only complaint i have with the launchpad is that they didn't pull a feature that i LOVED from the launchpad on EQ2 - to log in as a specific character directly from the patcher.

as it is, i'm not even sure if i can bypass server select, so i'm a triffle annoyed. :)

Just run EQgame with the patcher bypass. It still functions the exact way you are referring to.

The annoying thing

The one thing that really annoys me of the new patcher is that when I hit accept for the EULA it ever goes away. You always have to hit it over and over again every time you login.

Just my 2cp

I found this info on the EQ Forums:

The launchpad shortcut can be modified for:
/game:
/realm:
/gamepatchpath:

I just tested this using:
D:\Games\LaunchPad\LaunchPad.exe /game:everquest /realm:live /gamepatchpath:D:\Games\EQ

Currently it is patching a sep EQ folder.

Realm is probably the difference between live and test.

This should make it easier for you hotboxers to patch, just have diff shortcuts per path.

I also noticed that "dotted rectangle" around the word "Play", as well as within the fields you type your password into. I thought it may had been a java thing, maybe bad code, but interestingly enough (yet not entirely surprising) the "dotted rectangle" is ON the graphic itself!

I have no clue as to why they drew the rectangles on the graphic, maybe to show there is a field there, but then why around the "play" button. (shrug)
If the dotted lines were removed, the patcher would be much cleaner looking.

I do agree with kudilukudzu, it would be perfect to have the auto login character option, would definetly speed things up from loading.

Can use this to avoid the Launchpad -- < Download >

Was posted in the EQ Forums. Just zipped it up since it's an .exe file.

Brings up the old patch screen and log-in. And yes, it's supposed to be named "verQuest" .. or anything else besides "EverQuest", heh.

Not sure how long it will work. Might only be until they actually put EQ on the Station Launcher for real, but who knows.

about the rectangle around play on the patcher. Its like old school windows, if you didn't have a mouse, tab will move the box around to the next field. I 'spose this is so you can input all your info without using the mouse, use space to activate the current field with the rectangle. Tab will even select minimize and close, so make sure your on the right one when you select with space.
Also as a side note, while tabbing for your selection, if you pass up button you want, shift + tab will go backwards. Works just like alt + tab,(shift +alt + tab) for selecting running programs in windows.
