As I understand it, the right-click slots in most mods are simply player armor/equipment slots, added in a different window... for example, if it only takes a Chest item, that's because it's actually the Chest slot from the Inventory.
I suppose a Right-Click mod could be made using general inventory slots (where bags are put)... in fact, I'd be surprised if there isn't one light that already. I think though that most people wear their right-click armor/items, so having the armor slots makes sense for them. I've seen more than one that was customizable - you could change the slots to be the ones you needed... couldn't do it on the fly though, would have to do it outside the game.
