The reason for the stretch is that 768 is not really a valid size for a file. File size dimensions need to be a power of 2 eg. 2, 4, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 5096 etc
What is happening is EQ is stretching your image to a size it can use - namely 1024 wide. Now your image is 400 pixels wide. eg. 768/3*4 = 1024 so 300/3*4 = 400.
