Utility for Comparing XML/Text Files?
Well, now that VI is patching uifiles, I find myself in need of a utility to compare text files. I can run windiff at work on an NT system, but I have Windows Me at home. Does anyone know if Me comes with windiff or, can anyone recommend a good utility for this?
Thanks,
-Cal

I use XMLSpy from www.xmlspy.com
to modify the XMl files. It keeps each xml in a diff tab so you can switch between them and its all organized nice and neat in tables with a tree system inside.

You might want to do a search for "Beyond Compare" on google. Great program for comparing files and showing all the differences. Took me maybe 2 minutes to get all my mods back up and running after the patch using it.

I'm editing my stuff on my Unix machine. I mounted the Windows machine via SMB so that I can edit the files while running EQ. At any rate, to tell file differences if you have some Unix variant, try using "diff" from the command line.
The command line below will compare "from file" with "to file" (please remove the brackets when you type the command). It will ignore changes in case, spacing an line breaks and only focus on differences in the actual text.
Code:
diff -abBi <from file> <to file>
