Inheritance does seem to occur within a window with a limited success.
The most interesting aspect I found while working with child windows was that only the area of the screen bounded by the parent window allowed input. So if a child window were hanging half-in and half-out of the parent window. It would all display, but only the half-in part could be clicked on. Guessing it relates back to how the EQ program sorts out mouse clicking in general.
