The default buff window in vert2.2 (most recent version) is a bit wonky, you need to slide the sides towards each other to make it look right. Alternatively, you could download Sokol's buff window from the Verttweaks thread or the Vert download section. This one works fine for me.

As far as the player window, I would suggest checkin out Sokol's mods again. I tried a couple of other pw's (mafoo, I think) that I couldn't get working, so I just stuck with Sokol's. If you post which PW you are having problems with, you may find someone who has a version that works.

I've been having problems with the player window as well. The only one that loaded was the original, which isn't quite what I wanted. I tried Sokol's bard friendly one, and I'm still not having any luck. There is an error that lines are duplicated in the pet info window (ATK). Being and XML idiot, I thought I'd try and "delete" the pet window thinking that might help. No go. Then there was a bunch of "missing black box" errors. Ah well, knowing Sokol and Vert, I'm sure they'll figure this out ASAP. Still amazes me how quickly they respond and how awesome their work is. Kudos to them!
