Default Spell Gems covered in black, why?

Been working on putting together a clean interface, using several people's ideas. Previously I was just using one of the slim spellbars from here, but I decided to do something like what Vert has, with the names of the spells next to the gem. I did that, but now the spell gem appears as a black box (all of them).

Before I had added the spell names next to the gem it had done this when I hotkey'd the gem, but I thought nothing of it at the time. Now it is a major annoyance. Any help would be appreciated

I need to add here, that I am using T.King's spell gems.

Also, I have noticed when I set the transparancy on the window to less than 100 % that the gems finally do appear, so what could the problem be here?
