When I read this I thought that I just HAD to try this out...

It was awesome...all items having this bright cyan border!LOL

A more subdued colour like grey or even a white border would help some people be able to differentiate the items from the background...this would really help some people with vision problems...

You would ALWAYS know when you foraged something on your mouse!

Great work!

I am glad you like it Orp. White would be very easy to do, even easier than the Cyan.

I thought this sounded very cute, so I took a stab at it. If this is what you are looking for, let me know and I will upload it:

Hmm....from the sample screenie - looks like the the images were degraded overall. The whitish halo is nice. However, I see that you are still creating the bleedover where objects actually abutt the edge of the 40x40 cell.

I'm willing to bet someone will give scripting a hand to do the graphic edits icon by icon and thus eliminate the bleedover. If they do...well - I'll be back

Some of the drag items butt up against each other in the .tga file, like the cards on dragitem12. How would you 'script' that out?

Ok, I have uploaded the UI. You can download it HERE.

I achieved the halo effect by "feathering" the mask by two pixels. Some items, such as the spider silk, end up looking very blurry because the halo was added to internal holes as well as the outside border of the objects. In general, light colored items end up looking fuzzy with a white border applied to them.

A clean version of this modification would require applying the halo to each icon separately in a 40x40 window and pasting them all together. It would take many hours to do this by hand, but it is possible someone could write a program or a script that would do it more quickly. I don't have access to the necessary tools to do this myself.

It took me about an hour to process all 26 dragitem images. Doing each icon by hand would probably take about 40 hours - so it is not going to happen.

If I like how this turns out I'd do each by hand. Tedious tasks are my forte. And I bet I could do em all in just 4 or 5 hours. =D

Again, this depends on if I like the effect.

Really - you wouldn't need to do them all. Only the ones where it would be of benefit.

Another alternative woulb be to process them as the full sheet (which has already been done) and then go back thru and manually clean up the edging. I think this would be the next logical step if it wasn't done using scripting.

That "manual" part is a problem. Here's an example of one sheet with halos:

The parts that need to be cleaned up are generally the parts where objects sit very close to each other.

I think the idea of giving halos only to those objects that need it has merit. That would be the rat whiskers and the bixie stinger, right?

I found the same thing when I did mine. I like the holes to still be there, so I did what you are doing and cleaned it up.

This is true, but it not specifically why I requested this. The main problem was loosing stuff on screen once it was on the cursor.
Rat whiskers (Drakkel Wolf Whiskers) are a good example. Since its a one color object - it simply gets lost. I was originally hoping for something that would help contrast the image, but my idea of using CYAN proved eye-blistering. Ah well.
