Description
Myxiplx's Improved Widescreen UI

Updated / Replaced
Just in case anybody is subscribed to this, you should know I've got a new version out now:
Myxiplx's UI v2.0
I decided to post that as a new UI rather than replace this one as there are still a lot of optional pieces in here that I haven't updated yet.

Introduction
This is my latest UI, the concept is still the same as my original UI's; to give you a clear wide viewing window, with everything you need at your fingertips. With this UI however I'm pushing the boat out and making some real changes to the layout. I think it's a lot more usable than the default, but there's no getting away from the fact it's quite a shock when you first install it

As before, the map can be kept open without interfering with your view (very handy for pulling!), and I've kept most features along the bottom and shrunk the viewport to 1280x789 (/viewport 0 0 1280 789), so framerates should be 15-20% better than running fullscreen.

Questions or Comments?
Please don't use the comments feature on this page, I don't get any e-mail notification for these. Instead, please use this discussion thread if you have any questions or comments:
Myxiplx's UI question & comments thread

Changes in v1.4:
  • Update: 10th spell gem spot added
  • Update: UI elements resized to match the new larger spell bar
  • Update: 5th potion belt slot added
  • Update: Hot bar 2 made slightly wider
  • Update: Current level added to selector window
  • Update: Installation instructions modified for new /copylayout function (thanks SKlug!!)
  • Update: Aura window moved to centre of screen

Main Features:
  • Advanced target window with colour changing group health indicators.
  • Much larger mana / endurance bar integrated into main hotkey.
  • Main stats on screen at all times.
  • Player health integrated into group window.
  • Map can toggle between two background colours.
  • Advanced 'clickies' bandolier, giving easy access to entire inventory. Great for clickies, tradeskills and looting.
Standard Features:
All the regular features from my original UI are still here:
  • Wide, clear viewing area
  • Important info clustered in one place for easy viewing
  • HOTT and cast timer integrated into target window
  • Custom 4 slot discipline bar
  • Custom 2 slot potion bar
  • Custom EQ button showing armour pieces (great for clickies)
  • Permanent space for map
  • Inventory view integrated to map screen
  • Potion belt next to inventory works as Auto-Inventory dropper
  • Buff lists showing full names
  • Six chat boxes, without visible text input areas
  • One dedicated chat box for text input
  • All four action windows on screen
  • Big expanded bank window (no more digging through your bags)
What I've tried to do is give each item it's own space on the screen. For example, all buffs run along the left edge, inventory and armour items are all in the bottom right. Where this really shines is group and combat information. Everything you need for combat should be clearly visible in the centre.

I've seen UI's with more screen space available, but they generally do it by lumping all the buttons together, making it impossible to find what you want quickly. I've done my best to avoid that with this UI, hopefully getting the best of both worlds and having a clear screen with lots of info available.

Optional extras included
  • 2, 3, 4 or 5 slot potion belt
  • 4 or 8 slot combat abilities
  • Standard or Large size selector menu
  • Choice of gauges: Mana only, Endurance only, Mana and Endurance
  • Map with or without bags
Known bugs
- Bandolier with bags can crash EQ in some situations.

This is a long term bug in EQ; any mod using open inventory slots has a risk of crashing the client, and it seems that crashes are more common since the recent patches.

However, the crashing only happens in certain situations, and it's quite possible to avoid them altogether. I find the inventory slots on the bandolier useful enough to make the workarounds worthwhile.

The main cause of the crashing appears to be after zoning when the bandolier attempts to display slots in a bag that's no longer there. To avoid this:
  • Always use 10 slot bags.
  • Don't zone with the bandolier open.
  • When you die, don't open the bandolier until you've looted your corpse.
  • If you're using a clicky port item which means you have a bag on your cursor as you zone, don't open the bandolier after zoning. Put the bag back using the normal inventory first.
By doing that I've managed to avoid all the crash problems with this type of mod.

Coming Soon
These are all planned, but are taking absolutely ages to get around to, far longer than I originally planned. pm me if you want any of them.
  • Improved pet window.
  • Optional larger map.
  • Include audio triggers.
Recommended Usage
While I've still got chat windows for combat and spell spam, by default they're only a single line high. I'm now using Audio Triggers to notify me of the important stuff, using AT&T's site to create custom voices where needed.

I also recommend customising your hotbuttons. Mine are quite a lot smaller than the default, and are a lot easier to read if you create your own names. Use macro keys and:
  • "/alt act" for AA's
  • "/doability" for actions. 1-6 for standard abilities. 7-10 for combat ones
  • "/cast" for spells
  • "/disc" for disciplines
Supported Resolutions
Because of the new /copylayout function, I'm no longer including multiple layouts. Instead a single 1280x960 windowed layout can be easily copied to any other resolution.

Installation
This mod really needs the custom window locations to work, so you'll need to copy a few files to install it. Full instructions are included with the download.

Myx

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Detail of pieces

New target window
Features:
  • HOTT integrated into target window
  • Cast timer also integrated, and next to target health.
Great for everyone but espeically for clerics - see at a glance if CH will hit on time.
  • Colour changing health indicators added, showing group and pet health

The health indicators are easily my favourite feature of this mod. They mean you never miss when someone in the group has taken a hit, or got aggro unexpectedly. Also great at letting you know when a pet train is inc ;-).

They're fully working too - click the indicator to target that player.

Map with toggle background
My standard small map, with the ability to toggle between light and dark backgrounds.

Choice of gauges
New in this version, choose between mana only, stamina only, or both:

Inventory & clicky slots added to Bandolier window
For a while I've been trying to come up with a good solution for clickies for people with lots of these (I know of people with 24 or more clickies!).

Changes in v1.3:
  • Inventory bags removed from map as standard (now optional extra if you still want it).
  • Instead bandolier window has been converted to a pop up inventory & clickies window.
  • Raid window updated - more groups on screen at once and buttons are grouped in a more logical order
Changes in v1.2:
  • Update: Support for 1280x960 resolution added.
Allows EQ to fit just above start bar
Note: I forgot to add this comment in the readme file:
When running at 1280x960 resolution run the command /viewport 0 0 1280 723 to get the screen at the right size.
Changes in v1.1:
  • Bugfix: Graphics on hotbar 4 corrected.
  • Bugfix: Invisible border on player and group windows corrected.
  • Update: Attack Indicator now shaped to fit UI.
  • Update: New Endurance bar options for melee and hybrids.

Re: having trouble

When you say small, how do you mean? There's a bug I've heard of since September 5th that occasionally means EQ loads all the windows as tiny 3x3 pixel squares.

Don't know the fix for that top of my head, but give me more details on what's happening and I'll try to help.

PS. A better place to reply or as questions is in this thread: http://www.eqinterface.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=18945. Since eqinterface doesn't send any notifications out if you reply here.

Re: Problem with map and bags

Hey Pierces, glad you like it.

To zoom the maps use the mouse wheel, I deliberately left the zoom buttons off to save space figuring most people have wheel mice these days. If you don't... pm me and I'll see what I can do

The bank thing sounds like you may have bags with less than ten slots. Any open bank mod doesn't give you more slots than you have, even though it displays them. If you have a 6 slot bag and try to put something into slots 7, 8, 9 or 10 it'll re-appear in your cursor as you zone. (the client used to crash when this happened, so at least they've done something right recently ).

Exclamation Problem with map and bags

What a great UI!
I have a coupe of comments/questions:
1. The maps are frequently to small and to busy to read, is there a way to zoom in and out?
2. I am having trouble putting things into the bank from my bags. Once I zone they seem to move back into the bags. Not sure if this is a UI problem or some other bug, but it only happened once I started using your UI.

Otherwise this is the best I have used for a long time. Congrats!

Nodrog, there's a message on the front page saying the site's had database problems and they've had to restore to a backup from the 12th so I guess that's what happened to your message.

Can you have a look for any error messages in your uierrors.txt file and post any error messages you are getting here. Ignore the 'file not found' warnings, they are normal, it's only errors that you need to look for.

I'm not getting any problems on my own computer with the latest patch, so I'll need to see the detail of your errors to see what's happening here.

well i posted a reply once to this asking a legitamate question and it's not here now so here we go again this isn't asking for help or features either it's asking a simple question that deserves a simple answer. is there an update for this user interface? because as stated in the last posted reply to this i am gettting a message in red text once logged into everquest stating that the xml files for this user interface are not compatible with the current version of everquest. i find it rather rude whomever deleted my previous post about this for someone to have done so.

I had to go looking

Got bored playing a bit, so went looking at UIs for the first time in 6 months, and the wife loved the big bank window to go with what I already built here... so thanks alot! I think I might use it too.

Congrats Paxa

Hi Paxa I am glad you found my post and decided to act based on it. Not to sound like I am kissing up, but I do think Myxiplx definately deserves to be rated higher and be more popular than his UI currently is. To that end, I pushed the ball a little bit.

Myplix I read your post regarding my default files installation and you are absolutely correct. I withdrawal my suggetion regarding that, except for rare debugging purposes. And, even then you should always set back to a clean install without those files.

I still hope you make a UI for people who use windowed mode. That would be so sweet.

Regarding the viewport command, do you only need to do that once and its set permanaantly for that toons INI file? Currious.

Re: Fast reply to my concern and fix to my problem

Thanks for the kind words, there's just a couple of comments I need to add.

Firstly you don't need to copy the default files into the UI and I would actually advise against doing this. Yes, it does save a load of warning messages in the UIerrors.txt file, but it does make life a lot easier when SoE update parts of the UI.

By copying the whole default folder, you need to copy changes over every time SoE update any file, which means keeping track of 400+ files. Keeping things separate means that most SoE updates won't affect my UI, and I'll quickly get updates out there for the 30 or so files I do include.

Secondly, I'm going to see if I can get some .ini files done for alternative resolutions. I know what you mean about windowed mode since my gf had the same problem and I had to move the windows myself.

I'm already trying to put together a 1440x900 file for someone, but finding it tricky without a screen that size to test it on (it's needing lots and lots of settings to edit by hand in a text file, and a spreadsheet to record the new loations).

EQ has an alternative resolution which I think may be better for windowed mode - 1280x960. That means EQ just fits on screen with the start bar visible. I'm going to put together another .ini file for that size this weekend.

I'm also going to add more details to the readme file, explaining how the UI works, so it's not quite so confusing when people try to move pieces

Fast reply to my concern and fix to my problem

Myxiplx you rock and I thought I would let people who are thinking of trying your UI know that it simply is amazing and is the UI that has won my heart from AYA.

A big part of the reason is how you promply email answers to users problems and help us even when its not your UIs fault but our silly installation mistakes or not understanding how it works.

Myself I found that the UI is MORE than I had hoped and better than I expected. Let me make a few recommendations to users that might help, at least I hope.

If you have problems with this UI or any UI for that matter it is not a bad idea to make a new default UIfiles folder for the contents of your old UI files default directory and let it download a complete new set of files for your default folder. My default folder had files in it dating back to 2002.

The second thing I learned and didnt understand is that when i make a new folder for Myxiplx UI I need to copy all the files from the default folder into it first (thus why I wanted fresh uptodate ones). While this isnt essential and the UI will load default files if it cant find one in the folder, it makes the error log correct for when you log on helping you if you shouold have any errors, and not a list of error cannot load, loading default file type entries.

After having done this I copied the files provided by Myxiplx into the Myxiplx folder and that part was done.

Lastly I copied and renamed the config file he provides to the eq main directory.

This UI config file is set up to run in full screen mode and tweeking is needed if you want to run in windowed mode since from my experience the exposed window is different size wise than full screen, but this issue is universal no matter what UI you use.

Be very careful before you go moving the chat windows around since the window he has for typing your imput chat into is transparent and under the middle window and looks like an input line, and its not apparent its a window to itself which has no text going to it.

I love this UI and I think it rocks.

Hey guys, sorry, haven't checked this page for a while so didn't know anyone had asked a question.

If anyone else has any questions, the best place to ask them is in the thread I'm linking to below. That way I'll get an e-mail from the site and you should get a reply much quicker.
Reply here: http://www.eqinterface.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=18945

And with that said, let's see if I can solve these problems

The chat window problem is because EQ doesn't actually let you create chat windows without an input area, instead I've used a cunning trick discovered by thoughtlover that makes the input area appear invisible.

What that then allows you to do is create a new window and set the 'always chat here' option. By default I've got an invisible window at the bottom of my UI where this is set. That means you don't see input areas on any other windows, there's just a small area at the bottom of the screen where all your typing goes.

To get the typing back where it used to be, you need to try to right-click on the scroll bar in the invislbe chat box at the bottom. If you can do that and get the menu up, just select 'always chat here' and your problems should be solved.

If you can't get that to work, just create another chat window, set 'always chat here' in that, and then resize it and place it where you want. Because it's a new window, you'll never have any other text go there so it'll just be used for your own typing.

Red face Balzeron

Ditto what Balzeron says, I love the simplicity and cleanness of the chat boxes. Initially they worked fine for me.

Now they also for overtype for me when i hit enter I dont get a clean line to type on but i end up having to type thru the area where the bottm line is. This makes it pretty hard to read what you are typing.

Initialy it didnt do this when I copyed the UI file over that you offered in your kit, but when i restarrted EQ it did this. I ran options on reboot to see what my default screen size was, however I did not make any changes.

It made a few changes to your program that were unexpected.

It made a page one to the Macro page. Initially your page was empty with nothing on it like AFK, Anon, follow, GM list etc, the default 10. Also, I had made a few macros for my toons and it overwrote those. Additionally, it messed up which window things went to. I had spent considerable time setting up what window ooc or tells or melee damge etc went to but that also changed. I am not sure why these changed, but I wont ever peek at my options to see what my screen settings are again.

Probably I would be happy to find out what section of the UI file sets the chat window defaults so that this overwriting dont mess up, since for me I really prefer fixing the UI file rather than reloading your default one from the installation kit and having to muss around with all my settings i spent time setting up.

So this problem is one created by EQ somehow when one reboots or checks options to see the settings.

I love this UI Only thing i was having probs with is the chat boxes. when you type it goes over the last line in the chat box and not a dedicated line to type in. is there a way to get this blank space to type in ?
Thanks
