JensUI_640x480_Beta.zip LAG!? Why?
 

I downloaded this UI earlier. It is the best looking UI I have ever seen! :) But upon downloading it and extracting, then finally loading it, I realized that it caused extreme lag - like Bazaar-quality lag. Has anyone else tried downloading this and had this problem? (Btw it's in her "My Skins" folder.) But anyway, this is just what I'm looking for in a UI, yet when I get it working, it just gives me another problem. :( I love how it looks though, and am not trying to criticize anyone or anything.

My friend suggested it's a problem with my computer (ie not enough ram, etc). Could this be it?

well.. how much ram are you useing? Also might be you video card? just dont know what out knowing anything about your comp.. it might be the ui its self?

I have 256 Ram altogether. (My computer uses DDR ram (I think that's it) And it can't do more than that) :( As for the video card, all I know is that it's Nvidia, I think. :p Sorry, but I'm DEFINITELY not a computer guy. What can I do about the vid. card that could help?

Hmmm.. i load it in my computer and its working fine no lag at all..im running a pen 4, 2g .. 1g of ram.. and GeForce fx 5200 ultra 128mp ddr... it might just be your ram and "or" your video card??

Is there anything I can do about the Video Card? I've heard of "drivers" or something, but I dunno what those are...

Also, btw, my Video Card is a NVidia, I just confirmed it.

If I were to reformat my hard-drive would that help? I don't know how I can possibly speed up my comp. at all. I know hardly anything about technical things like that. But this UI is exactly what I'm looking for and I'm desperate to get it to work! :(

i know you said that about you video card was but it can be a low lvl one since you dont know what one it is could be a gf2 with 32mb of ram?? that would make the game laggy right there?? but i cant be sure.. i know when i loaded it i had no lag what so everwith what i have.

Well, I downloaded the latest Driver, but no luck. I'm just going to reformat my hard drive in a few weeks and try again then. Also, I'm emailing the creator asking about it. But thanks for all your help! :)

I'd sooner smash my motherboard, cpu, ram and video card with a hammer then shoot myself in the face than format my harddrive. Every 2 years or so I just buy a new, bigger harddrive, do an exact copy of my old one onto the new one, then put my old one in storage. Have 3 in storage, on a 120 GB now.

the solution is most likely this

in game hit CNTL-O

under DISPLAY select VIDEO MODE

change the BIT from 16 to 32

most new UIs use a 32 bit color pallet, the standard uses a 16.. if your running a 32 bit UI on the 16 bit setting, you will see HUGE lag.

try that before reformatting.

Doh! My setting was already at 32 bit. Tried redownloading, reading readme, etc. then I tried 16 bit color just to check, and still LAGMANIA! :( Is there anything else you can think of?

Check and post your UIError.txt log file (found in your main EQ directory).

I tried looking for such a file before, and I couldn't find it. I'll do a search. I'll post about it in a few minutes! Thanks. :)

you need to add the % label in the player window, even if it had one there youll need to change it to the way eq did it in the default folder...

I'm not sure if I know exactly what you mean... I'm sorry :p Once again, I don't know much about files, programming, editing, all that sort of lingo.

Anyways, just a reminder - I can get the UI to work, I just can't get it to work without getting terrible lag. Just making sure we aren't going off in a tangent here. :)

Go to the Patch Fixes Archive forum (sub forum within the Patch Fixes forum). Find the message for 14 May 03. That has the directions to manually update your UI to get rid of those errors.

Sounds like I must be missing some of my files, Cairenn. :) Thanks for pointing it out. I'll try to fix it later, but that folder (UiErrors) was full of errors from MANY UI's I have tried over the last few days, not exclusively Jenara's UI, so are you sure that those errors are the reason?

No, I can not promise that that is the only problem, but until you clear that one up, we can't tell what else may be causing problems.

As for the UIError.txt log file, it is re-written every time you load a UI.

This is what came up after I loaded the JENSUI. The previously posted UIErrors text was not from this UI. So ignore the previous post, and look at this instead. :) Sorry about the confusion.

Edit: Wowsers! After looking this over, I realize that with that many errors, it's no wonder why it doesn't work! Is that... normal? :rolleyes:

That is your problem, now you just have to find it. You need to either find that referenced file and get it back into the UI, or you need to find where it is referenced and take the references out (and who knows what the UI will look like then).

(P.S. I deleted most of the lines showing that error message, since having it repeated a few times made the point. ;) )

I also see this in your error file

you need to put in the shared plat slot

I've looked high and low in the JensUI File and there are no window_pieces01 (or whatever they're called :p). I have gotten in touch with the creator recently, and I could probably ask her for some help. She didn't have a clue about it when she replied though. :( Does't look good! I noticed that there were no windowpiece files before, and I thought that was kind of odd. When I load the UI, it shows up perfectly fine, just massively laggy, so do those missing files cause that?

Cairenn - could you tell me how to do the thing regarding references in more simple terms? :p I'm sorry to say it, but I have just about no clue what you mean! I realize that there must be missing files and I need to locate them and put them back in. (I think... :p ) So is that what you mean?

Not too sure, but I did a search on the word Jens (Jenara shortened) and this was the only thing that came up - Any relation, or coincidence?

a quicker solution:

look in DEFAULT and copy the file WindowPieces01.tga

go to your Jens folder and click PASTE..

then RENAME it window_pieces01b.tga

this will get rid of the lag.. BUT watch for some sort of graphic GLITCH in the game, it will be loading an image from the wrong file.

soooo try that and see if your lag goes away.

Ok, I'll try that and post back tomorrow. But on another note - I went to my friend's house and DLed the JensUI and it worked flawlessly, no lag, nothing. But he gets a new comp. every christmas, so maybe that's it.
