making a shaman...
 

i have a 59 ranger and would like to try out a caster so i decided to go with shaman, i am stumped between making an ogre or a barb shammi, the reason for this is i understand that ogres have a exp penalty but awesome starter stats, the barbs have very low exp penalty but haver borderline starter stats, i would really like to make an ogre but lvling fast is important to me at this point, i would just like to know if the ogre exp penalty really makes that big of a difference in the 30's and upper levels, if not id go with ogre, but if so i dont a problem going with barb, please just give me your input

my wife and I both made shams, she has a barb and I made a ogre. we only played together on these toons. she hit 45 before I hit 43.

My main is a Barbarian Shaman. IMO I'd go with anything other than ogre or iksar because of the xp penalties. Troll is always an option for the extra regen but I'm unsure of any xp penalties with them. As far as stats are concerned you'll have no problem maxing them out with all those wonderfull buffs later in life :nana: And as you mentioned yes Ogres do start out with better stats But str is the only stat much higher than other races....Like I said buffs will max about everything for you a bit later except Wis! So ya! *shakes head* I wouldnt go ogie :p

I play atrollie shammy and its the near bast race to play as a shammy, the regen is a big big help when you use canabalise alot (and you do) Lizzy shammys are great because they have the best regen (think about how much you pay in the bazaar for a +1 health regen :rolleyes: ) With the way Xp rolls now days, i dont think its all that big a deal, i play a lizzy monk and i went from low 30's to almost 50 now in just a few weeks of passive play.

As Snowiie S said with buffs just from yoru self you will abotu max every stat ans with the addition of POK buffs you can max WIS easy. Shoot, once you hit POP the gear you can get from there alone can about max yoru stats. Just pop into the bazaar, blow 2k and you will have killer stater gear for yrou shammy that will last well into his 40's

What it comes down to is if you just want a toom that you can lvl fast, then pick a class that a human can play :p

As a side note, Troll Shaman(s?), besides having good starting stamina, and the regen, have a capability that no other shaman race has. Regent Symbol of Innoruuk . It is, from my knowledge, the only reasonable way for a shaman to have a clicky snare. Is it worth building an entire character around? Maybe. But this and regen... wow. Also, as everyone else said, maxing your stats is easy. You'll be incredibly thankful for the regen, and the snare will save your shaman butt dozens of times.
