I've noticed several pointers I've downloaded seem to get compressed in the game. After fooling around and finally coming up with a tga that worked, I've found the following:

If you make a .tga image the exact size of the pointer you wish to have, it will become compressed.

If you lay the .tga pointer image inside a 256x256 image, no compression will occur.

Just a helpful hint for future reference.
