Even though she convicted she will probably find a way to stay out of jail....even though she deserves to do sometime. Celebraties rarely have to go to jail for financial crimes ![frown](images/smilies/frown.gif)

Minimum sentance is 1 year for each offense. So she gets atleast 4 years of jail.

I never cared much for Martha myself, but I don't agree with the punishment she may get.
The only thing she was even convicted of was lieing to the police (what they call "obstruction of justice"). To get that many years for something like that is just insane, no matter who it is. Funny thing is that police can outright lie to you and apparently that is just fine.
Many laws in America are way too severe. People can murder another person and get less time compared to other crimes.

She was found guilty on all charges....Maximum sentance from all charges could be has long has 20 years in prison.
But, she is only expected to get 1-2 years, and be able to serve that out in a halfway house or home confinement...
She's getting off easy!

Im just glad to see that "justice is blind" is holding up still. There have been countless celebs that get off just because of who they are and im glad that is happening less.

So it's self righteous to be glad that justice is weighed equally to all citizens?
Wow just wow....

I didnt understand it
What do we all know about this? It seems many of us want her jailed, but why? What law did she break? What evidence did they have? Was this evidence so concrete that there was no reasonable doubt? Should she have not used inside trade info? Would you have ignored the advice of your broker if you knew you were fixing to lose thousands or millions of dollars? She is a public figure does she deserve the rights that all Americans are supposed to have?
She lied to public officials, so has most all of us who have been afraid of the US govt. Should you go to prison for fudging a bit on your taxes, telling a cop a less than true story about why you were speeding? Even though it is very common for public officials to lie to people to get the info they are after.
Conspiracy adds to the sentence, but why? If I steal 100 dollars from you am I more evil because I discussed it with another person?
I wouldnt want to see a dog have to endure a life in prison. Why would we want to see a non violent person in prison? Perhaps with the overcrowding we can set a child molester free to make room for her.

Well a jury of her peers saw there was guilt with out a reasonable doubt. What she was accused of doing and a jury found her guilty of is very serious crime and can not be compared to telling a fib to the Police or IRS or whatever. Talk to any one that works on wallstreet and they will tell you how serious the crimes are. There are many other trials that you don’t hear about and these white collar criminals that have been accused of doing similar things that Martha was found guilty of will likely spend more time in jail then Martha (dateline had a nice story on that). So please don’t think Martha is the first to be charged of this.
She won’t be put in the same prison as murderers and such but more of a white collar prison which probably isn’t much better. I think she could do more good out of prison if forced to for her punishment but that isn’t up to me and I doubt any one would care what I think anyways.
