Guess im a bit confused. I thought you were saying that I could use SIDL Fiddle with out having EQ installed.
In any case what ever directory I choose is rejected as the EQ home directory. Even if I try to fool it and make a c:\program files\everquest directory.
Also I dont seem to have a "fiddle.properties" file to delete. NOt sure if this is part of my problem.
Again, thanks a lot for all the help. =)

SIDL Fiddle requires that the home directory have a subdirectory called UIfiles, and that the UIfiles subdirectory have a directory named default. This should exist when you install and get the latest patches to Everquest.
If you want to use the program without installing EQ, you will have to insure that these directories exist, and that the files in the default folder are valid.

Nice program.. cant wait for the next release!
I was having huge performance problems, until I cleaned up the dozens of zip files and old skin folders I had under uifiles (about 100meg of old junk).
Moving the zips and the skins I'm not currently using to a different directory increased performance significantly!

King Arglebargle? or someone else
Your post follows the situations I have seen also. Thanks for the comment. Just an update on 0.7.1; I am working on fixing a new property editor (almost done) and I want to add a palette of controls that can be added to a screen (and the ability to remove them). After those are done I'll release the new version.

There is a link on the download page to JavaSoft. You must have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.3.1 for this version.

One thing I'd really like to see is being able to move a block of selected objects together.
I did stop reading at about page 3 so if someone has already requested this then disreguard.

Oh god, I'm glad I saw this thread, I was still using ver0.2.9!
I clicked the link in the "about" section regularly, but it goes to the old origonal web site, so I thought there were no updates..

I downloaded version 0.6.3 of this, and the 0.6.4 patch. I installed JRE version 1.3.1_6.
When I try to run SIDL Fiddle, I get the startup splash screen in the foreground and a command prompt thing in the background. It sits there for a min or 2 then stops with the following error message:
D:\fiddle_0_6_3>java -jar fiddle.jar
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
<<no stack trace available>>
I'm running an AthalonXP 2700+ on a motherboard with the nForce2 chipset, geForce4 ti4200 and 1 gig of ram. OS is Windows XP home, fully updated and has DX9 installed.
I got the same error on my AthalonXP 1700+ system with a geforce3 ti500 and 512 megs of ram running winXP pro.
Somehow I think I'm not really running out of memory. =x
I guess I'll have to continuse using version 0.2.9

0.2.9 is SIDL WIDL not SIDL Fiddle. Different program altogether

Hehe, yeah, I just realized that today. I would blame lack of sleep and a generally high frustration level on the mixup, but I gota face up to the fact that I'm just a tard. =x
Ok, so now that we have established that I am a tard, on to my continuing problem. I moved the ummm...17 extra foulders of UIs and graphics, over 100 megs of stuff, and have only 2 custom UIs in my uifiles directory now. I launch SIDL Fiddle and it loads fine, but when I load a screen, it shows everything in greyscale, mostly I just am looking at white rectangles and such showing the where stuff is. I'll mess with it some more, or maybe even read any available instructions....
Hopefully when/if I manage to overcome my massive level of ignorance, I'll figure it out. It would be nice if this program turns out to be better than SidlWidl. =)

I swear on the graves of all my deleted characters that I had NO idea that someone had started work on something similar to mine...and with almost the same name!!!
0.7.1 will probably be posted this next week (after the super bowl). It should take care of the oom (out of memory) errors.

I have a window I modified that is not showing up in SIDLFiddle. I went in and (as normal) did the major xml changes to the Bank window using an xml editor. Then I loaded SIDLFiddle to check placement, resize as needed, etc. However, the bank window is not showing up in the selected UI mod. I double checked to make sure I saved it, and sure enough it's in there.
Any suggestions?

Any plans to make this thing fly in Java 1.4 ? I've got 1.4 on my machine and I can't downgrade ( because I'm using it for other things ).
Thanks!
