Angry Windows Key

Anyone have a way to turn off the Windows key either with in the UI or with in windows itself. This thing is driving me crazy, everytime you accidentally hit the key you are dropped to the desktop and your Char is left link dead.

Try Microsoft IntelliType software. That allows you to assign different functions to some of the keys on your keyboard (or disabling alltogether), including the cursed Windows key.

My solution has always been knife under the edge of the key and by pop goes the key accross the room where it belongs. I have heard that letter openers work as well. Those that have used hammers in an attempt to smash the thing normally have bad results.

Letter openers work. So do small screwdrivers.

Yea I would have to agree. I went the small screw driver route. But I have to say after downloading the program that xguix suggested I went ahead and found my keys from the other side of the room and replaced them back on my keyboard to test it and it works. Don't like the fact that I have to use another Microsoft product on top of everything else Microsoft forces on us but it works and my keyboard looks like a keyboard again instead of a hacked up imitation of a keyboard.

Here's another top-layer app (but it's small and non-MS-written) that will kill the Windows Key, Properties Key and certain CTRL+ or ALT+ combos. The wife uses it and loves it. Just drop a shortcut to it into your Start Menu\Programs\Startup folder and voila.
