Modern Streamlined Skin
Description: I just threw together a skin with the best mods I have seen out there and some unused graphics I had laying around froman old project. I like it alot. If you try it out pls let me know what you think.
1. Very trim spellbook
2. Trimmed windows to remove most of the bulk
3. All the percentage info like the first post.
4. Altered exp bars to make blue line more visible.
5. Funky new look.
6. much more that I have since forgotten =P
Its a work in progress and I appreciate any ideas you have.

Hmm. I've just tried this UI because the screenshot looked cool. Shame I can't get it work properly.
I have installed the directory properly and I launched EQ and typed "/loadskin modern true" (I use 'true' to keep my window position and transparency settigs). The skin loaded, the windows changed, I get the blue item boxes in the inventory screen, everything, BUT I dont get any of the new button or title bar graphics.
Yes, I have zoning, camping and re-logging, you name it, but the graphics will not load.
Any ideas?

Debug
I have loaded this on 3 machines without a problem. The only difference I note is that I never used the 'true' parameter with the 'load command'. I will give it a shot with the 'true' param and see if its a problem for me.
A couple questions to help me debug:
1. Are you running in 32 or 16 bit color? ( I am running 32 bit)
2. What resolution are you in? ( I am 1024x768)
Give me any info about your setup that you can think of, I will try to replicate your error. Please feel free to email me any installation issues.

I am going to continue development on this skin since a good number of people seem to like it. Please let me know if you have any ideas and check back regularly for updates.
Thanks for your input 8)

Hi Buddy...
My res & depth is at 1024x768 in 32bit also. Not sure what other specs would be helpful.... my vidcard is a GeForce2 GTS 64MB, and I'm running a P4 1.8 with 512MB RDRAM.
With regards to UI suggestions, the only thing I would say at the minute is to get rid of the dead space at the bottom of the hot button window
Talk soon...

RESOLVED!
well sort of... It seems you have to set the 'uiskin' setting under eqclient.ini to this skin folder since the last patch. I will work on getting a version that allows you to leave the default setting asap.
Once again the fix is:
1. open eqclient.ini
2. find the line UISkin=default
3. change it to UISkin=modern (or whatever you named the folder with the new skin in it)
I am also going to work on a installation package since many people contacting me with installtion difficulty.
ttyl,

Setup Package Completed
After a few people contacted me with difficulty setting up the skin, I decided to do a setup package fo rhe skin. Its a little bulky but seems to work well.
Download:
http://users.nac.net/buck/modern.zip
Installation Instructions:
1. Download modern.zip
2. Open the zip file and run setup.exe
3. Start Everquest
4. Type in /load modernui true
Enjoy!

Avallach,
Have to say, I like your skin overall - and this is from a guy who hasn't been impressed with most of the skins I've seen. Simpler is better, IMHO. Having said that, you might want to look at your installer. It assumes EQ is in the default directory. Since I have EQ on a different drive, I had to copy out the modernui dir from where it got installed, and into my real EQ directory. Not a big deal, but it lead to a moment of confusion where I logged in and couldn't load the skin...

Thanks for the feedback. I will add a quick verification of the installation location.

Hmm. I am using this one now, but for some reason the background for the chat window has a different design than the rest. It actually has the disign from a different skin I downloaded a while ago. First, it was the skulls from the necro UI set, and when I came back this morning it was the background of the archmage set. How can I fix this?

It worked. I actually downloaded the intallation package first time. Seems even though the UISkin=modernui I still had to type /loadskin modernui 1 to get it to work totally
