Hi all and thanks in advance,

First, I've read the FAQ and followed its instructions. Unfortunately I still can't load any new UIs. The default is always loaded.

The UIerrors file shows no errors.

I am putting the new uifiles into their own directory directly off of uifiles, alongside the default directory.

ie: /uifiles/iceyblue/

I have not copied any of the default files into that directory. It is free and clear before the copy the newui files into it.

When I enter the game I type:

/loadskin iceyblue 1

The screen stops as if I'm loading a new zone and comes back to the default UI. The only change is that my hotkeys "Slam, Sense Heading, etc." are now blank and a number is in their place. Right clicking on them allows me to choose the proper "word" for the hotkey again.

I have tried 10 or 12 different ui files and all have this same result. I'm sure there is something small I've missed, but I am frustrated at this point.

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Check your EQClient file in the main Everquest directory. Make sure that NewUI=TRUE. It's the 3rd line in the file. I sure hope that's it. Sounds to me like you are doing everything else right...

Also, check your UI_(charactername)_(server).ini file, in the main Everquest directory; there's a line that will say UISkin=(text); make sure this says the name of the folder your UI is in. What's happened to some folks is that it just shows boxes. If so, delete the boxes and type in your UI folder name, and you should be good to go!

I'm having the exact same problem. My folder for my skin is named Kang. I created it here in the Vert 2.2 Skin/Mods section. In the text box when I type /loadskin Kang (or /loadskin Kang 1) I get red letters that say's "Error loading Kang\".

The error messages in the log look the same as posted above. Since the patch I've redone the skin, checked to make sure my NewUI=TRUE, checked the character files (no boxes), tried several fixes that were posted on the boards here.... to no avail.

Someone PLEASE give me new options to try. The old UI is unbearable after using some of your great skins.

I fixed mine my using the new Vert EQUI.xml in the custom directory (ie. putting it there). It's available from a link on this site. Good luck.

In some UI's there does appear to be a strange little glitch showing up. Iceyblue is definitely one of them...

For some reason, using the loadskin window suddenly changes a line in the UI_character_#.ini like so:

Before: UISkin=iceyblue
After : UISkin=````

Going in manually editing the file back to the correct name seems to be the only way of correcting the corrupted UI_character_#.ini file.

Thanks to everyone who is trying to help.

More info:

NEWUI is set to TRUE. It was actually set that way when I checked.

UIskin is also set to the proper directory. I've tried more UIs than just iceyblue and none seem to give me anything other than the default.

I do not receive an error message, and none is posted to the uierrors file. I simply get the default interface with the hotkey tags stripped. The hotkeys still do what they were intended to do, but the "SLAM, Sense Heading" etc., are replaced with the key numbers, "1, 2, 3" etc.

I went back to the starting point, removing all the UIs I had downloaded and tried to load Vert 2.2. It didn't work, same result as above. I then applied the Sokol patch and the FPS patch with no better result. It's frustrating indeed.

I'm a new player (played one week approximately) and I have never seen a UI other than the default on my machine.

I'll keep plugging away. Thanks again to everyone who is trying to help.

Okay, drastic action...

- Delete the UIFiles folder and everything in it.

- Run the Patch program; watch it to see if it downloads the XML files.

- Log in to the games, see if yhe UI looks normal.

- Log out, download *one* UI that's verified fixed post-10/16; install it into it's own folder under Uifiles. Put *nothing* else in this folder.

- Download *one* single window mod (say, a modified inventory, hotbuttons, player window, group, whatever, but just one!). Install it into yet another separate folder. Put *nothing* else in this folder.

- Log back into EQ; type /loadskin (first new folder) 1. See what happens. If nothing, log out, save your UIErrors file to your desktop as UIErrors1.txt (or something similar).

- Log back into EQ; type /loadskin (second new folder) 1. See what happens. If nothing, log out, save your UIErrors file to your desktop as UIErrors2.txt (or something similar).


If neither load, come back and post which UI you downloaded, which single window mod, and the text of each UIErrors file. If one does but the other doesn't, then post about the one that doesn't.

And maybe, just maybe... both will load. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Hi Kang,

I think that message was meant for me. You actually had error messages that the folks here could have worked with.

On my front:

I removed the UIfiles folder and everything in it.

I logged into EQ, as far as I can today.. the servers are still locked, but there is no UIfiles folder now.

I then reinstalled SoL hoping that the UIfiles folder would be created. No go.

It could just be a patching thing because of PoP startup today.

That's where I'm at.
