Default Problems with T.King's Inventory Skin

K I had been using a few mumber of custom skins and UI from t.kings site and recently found a problem when using one of his G2 Inventory skins.

I been using the G2 spellbar+names, G2 spell icons, his undead spellbook skin and Remelio's simple xp player window. All thee start up fine till I added in his G2 stardard inventoy skin. EQ will start up as normal till it hit the character select screen where my mouse and keyboard 'freezes' and me can't enter or select any of my characters. When I encounter this problem I remove the G2 inventory skin and everything is back to normal.

I have post this problem in t.kings's forum and he kindly driect me to here. Can anyone so had this problem or anyone who can help me with me reply. Thanks.

Did you make sure that the G2 Inventory you got from him is one of the updated ones that is LoY compatible?

Also, post your UIError.txt log file.

I have added in other Inventory skins and all of them seems to have the same problem. This include all the latest skins out on t.kings's forum, which are all LoY able.

Whenever an custom inventory skin is added to the everquest\uifiles, the program will not allow me to use any of my mouse and keyboard functions when I reach the character select screen. Any other custom skins for spellbooks, icons, etc.... are ok and usable when I logged on.

I can restore EQ's UI to default by deleting all files in uifiles but for the default folder and starting up EQ again. The program will not freeze my mouse or keyboard.

As for the error log file I can't find it on searches and I have no idea how to access it, sorry but dun know how.

I've had that same lockup in character selection.But only rarely and I didn't change anything just reloaded EQ and I was in np.I use the same spell bar and inventory as well as a number of other mods.I don't have any mod related issues.Remelio has a loy patch you may want to try.You can find a link to his site from T.Kings and the patch may be listed here as well.Good Luck

I have check that forum but theres doesn't seem to be any patchs for custom inventory skin problems.

I had also reformat my computer recently (Weds) and install EQ again. Problems presist.

Also check my UI Error.txt file, theres no errors in it.

Ok I downloaded Remmy and run the patch, add in a inventory skin and start up EQ and It works.

Then I log off, restart EQ and the problem start up again, freezing my mouse and keyboard.

So any more ideas?

I'm assuming you ran the patch after adding the skin not before.The patch is intended to bring the older xml files used in some skins up to date.I would also try(until you sort it out)loading the default skin using init upon exit and reload your custom skin after your in game.A small hassle but will let you know if indeed it's the UI thats the problem.Also some video problems like the mouse cursor freezing like that can be traced to hardware acceleration that controls the redraw rate of same.Run DXdiag.exe(do a search for it on your comp)and try moving the slider back a notch or 2 to the left.Also make sure you are up to Vesion 9 of Directx.Hope this helps

Unhappy Woe is Me

Ok I downloaded and installed DirectX 9, move my hardware acceleration one notch back, add in the skins and then patch it.....

Sadness, Despair..... still dun work.

Now remove the whole custom file, move my hardware acceleration back one notch again so that now it disable all advance drawing and cursor accerleration, restart my com and tart up EQ. This time the screen feeze even when I remove any custom skins.

Ok now I m despairing and are no longer adding in new skins and M attemping to use your idea of oning the custom skins when logged on and resetting the thing when I off.

Default Woe is Me again

Augh now after all this my sscreen WILL feeze again whether or not I add in any custom files. My Uifiles contain only my default folder and the screen will now freeze at character select.

My UIerror file contain only this:

UIErrorLog created at Mon Apr 28 00:50:54 2003

This thing happen after I perviously install DirectX v9, patch the customs files and set my hardware acceleration back to normal.

I got the feeling I have to reinstall EQ again.

Well, I know what part of your problem is: Do NOT copy the default folder. The ONLY things that should be in your custom folder are the files that have actually been customized.

Delete your existing folder. Unzip the custom UI files into a fresh (empty) folder. Log in, load it up. If it doesn't work, exit game right then (don't load default), come back here and post your UIError.txt log file.

Well EQ dosent even try to load a UI until after you have selected a character and begun loading the game.If your freezing there at the character select screen it isn't due to the UI at all.I thought I saw you mention that you had redone your system in the recent past,so make sure you have updated all the drivers for sound video,mouse etc.Also in options try turning off some or all of the character models,detail options before you hit the character select screen.And If you reinstall get all the files to bring you up to date.I'm pretty sure this is something other the UI files themselves(provided you have implemented them properly).Good Luck and let us know if and when you get to the bottom of it.

Okie Cairenn I did followed the instructionss on t.kings' forum on how to install the custom skinss and when I add them, I had only 2 folders in the UIfiles; My default folder which I did nothing at all to it and my custom file which just contain my custom files and no other files at all. I know that /loadskin will load the folder where the custom skins are and will just use the default folder's files for the rest thats not being customize.

And now that you said it I have post the contents of my default folder's EQUI_CharacterSelect file which I hope may be the souce of the whole problem.
