Modding Spell Casting Graphics...
I know that the patcher repatches the "modded" spell effects you may mod, but has anyone tried bypassing this somehow? What about letting it repatch, then copy and paste the modded ones into the spell fx folder while the patch has already patched, then after doing that, hitting the play button on the patcher? Would this work?

try this
open the Run prompt
type
[your drive path]\everquest\eqgame.exe patchme
this bypasses the patcher all together

Either of the above will work.
Use the "eqgame.exe patchme" for everyday use.
Use the method you mentioned for when there's an actual patch.
