SOExplorer?
So with great excitment, I load EQ, and open the new ingame web browser.
Ahhhh the disapointment, it has no navigation bar.
Any one know enough HTML coding to force one into the new browser so we can go to places that are actualy worth going to?

I know a few people who are working on just that thing. And parsers etc that you can read in game through it. Well have to wait and see what they come up with, all i know is that they are trying

The browser is currently limited to SOE servers, and even links to external sites will not function. Really stupid, since most people would rather use the browser to get to Allakhazam's, EQTraders, and other sites than the EQ forums...

You know somehow someone is going to figure out how to do it... no idea why SOE would not allow browser usage during the game... they certainly allow it in EQ2 with their browser... not to mention you can alt-enter out to get a browser if really needed.

"If you really want to use this pos and use it to browse other websites (censorship and monopolies are illegal soe thank you) you can edit your HOSTS file (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and add a line like:
72.37.213.237 eqplayers.station.sony.com
(IP address of everquest.allakhazam.com)"
and
"Tracert to you're favourite website (alla/guild page/WoW/stile), get the IP, drop it in your hosts file (as mentioned above), and map it to whatever.sony.com
Send a PM to yourself on the boards with the links to click on, navigate to the forums and you're golden!"
So, looks like the one way to get around the SOE-only sites is to fake out Windows by editing your Hosts file. Not difficult, but really stupid if you ask me (not sure, but this could cause problems if you need to actually get to the "overridden" address). |
